Daily Bible Reading – March 15, 2021

Mar 15 (Daily reading: Deuteronomy 11-13, NIV) We visualize a beautiful scene as we read: “The land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven. It is a land the LORD your God cares for; the eyes of the LORD your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end” (11:11). This is an awesome symbol of the abundant life we enjoy in Christ—a life under God’s care, under His eternal watchful eye!

Moses told the people that it was not their children who had seen God’s wonderful works. “But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the LORD has done” (11:2, 5, 7). He gave them this word from God regarding their children: “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds … Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up” (11:18-19).

Our children will know of the abundant life we have in Christ only if we teach them by both words and example. In this way they will enjoy God’s blessings for themselves: “So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the LORD your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul … to walk in obedience to him and to hold fast to him … the days of your children may be many in the land … No one will be able to stand against you” (from 11:13, 22, 21, 25, in that order). If we do this for our children, they will have the opportunity to be like Timothy, who was brought up in the faith. Paul wrote to him: “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also” (2 Tim. 1:5).
