Daily Bible Reading – June 12, 2021

Jun 12 (1 Kings 7; 2 Chronicles 4) We continue considering the “house of God” as our bodies (our lives). Jesus talked about this, and what He said was astounding: “If anyone loves Me, he will follow My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him” (Jn. 14:23). The Father and the Son, living at my house! Amazing grace! He also told His disciples that the Holy Spirit “remains with you and will be in you” (Jn. 14:17). Consider this unique relationship: God made man in such a way that He could communicate with him. He wanted man to be able to respond to Him as he grew in his knowledge and understanding of God. He wanted man to be able to return His love. It is by the grace of God that He made us so that we would be able to become “God’s house!”

We read of all the gold that was in the temple; this symbolizes the spiritual value of God’s house: “So all the work that King Solomon performed in the house of the LORD was finished. And Solomon brought in the offerings vowed by his father David, the silver and the gold and the utensils, and he put them in the treasuries of the house of the LORD” (1 Kg. 7:51). 2 Chronicles 4:19-22 described all the things in the temple made “of purest gold.” As glorious as the temple was, Hebrews 9:11 says that Jesus, in order to become the Savior of the world, “went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands.” The value of our relationship with God in Christ cannot be calculated in human assessments. This is why Jesus said to the church in Laodicea: “I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich” (Rev. 3:18).
