Daily Bible Reading – February 21, 2021

Feb 21 (Daily reading: Leviticus 24-25) God instructed Moses: “…bring clear oil…for the light, to make a lamp burn continually… He (Aaron) shall keep the lamps in order…before the LORD continually” (24:1-4). A lamp burning continually gives light continually; God’s light on this earth will never be extinguished!

We see how light is continually on the earth in the reality of the Trinity: (1) “God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all” (1 Jn. 1:5). GOD, the Creator, the Author of life, is Light! The psalmist wrote, “The LORD is God, and He has given us light” (Ps. 118:27).

(2) JESUS said, “I am the Light of the world; the one who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life” (Jn. 8:12). John the baptizer said about Jesus: “In Him was life, and the life was the Light of mankind … This was the true Light that, coming into the world, enlightens every person” (Jn. 1:4, 9). And Paul wrote, “The Father…has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Col. 1:12-13).

(3) God’s people filled with the HOLY SPIRIT are a light on the earth. “You are the light of the world … your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Mt. 5:14-16). God told Moses, “Bring oil for the light.” We have seen that oil represents the Holy Spirit, whose continual presence is in us: “You know Him because He remains with you and will be in you” (Jn. 14:17). The indwelling Holy Spirit is the only way that we can be lights in the darkness. “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as children of light” (Eph. 5:8).

“Lift up the light of Your face upon us, LORD!” (Ps. 4:6).
