Daily Bible Reading – February 23, 2021

Feb 23 (Daily reading: Numbers 1-2) You may have rapidly read through the repetitious listing of names in chapter 1. But be reminded of this great truth: God is a personal God, and He knows your name! But Moses also gave the number of the total population. God knows by name the 7,847,858,287 (as of 7:00 a.m.) people who live in our world.

(Find on the Internet “worldometers.info/world-population” — click on “view all people on 1 page” — click on “watch as we increase”. You will be amazed! By the time I wrote this short paragraph, the number of people on the earth had increased by more than 200!).

Our first theme is evangelism. We know God loves us individually. He also loves the masses, which are made up of individuals. We may be discouraged by the overwhelming task of reaching the world, but we can be used by God to reach individuals, one at a time!

If chapter 1 overwhelmed you with all the names, chapter 2 probably overwhelmed you with the detailed organization of the tribal camps. We may not always see the importance of organization, but God did—for the welfare of the people of Israel. “They encamped under their standards, and that is the way they set out, each of them with their clan and family” (2:34). When we put the themes of evangelism and organization together, we discover that organization can help us to reach individuals for Christ. God will inspire us with the goals needed to accomplish HIS priorities for us.

“Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (Prov. 16:3).
