Daily Bible Reading – March 14, 2021

Mar 14 (Daily reading: Deuteronomy 8-10) In preparing the people to enter Canaan, Moses presented the reality of God’s love: “The LORD set His affection on your fathers, to love them, and He chose their descendants after them, you over all the other peoples, as it is this day” (10:15). They were loved, and they were chosen! John wrote that God’s love is the reason why He chose us to be His children: “See how great a love the Father has given us, that we would be called children of God” (1 Jn. 3:1).

Chapter 8 is a reminder that God’s love for His people was demonstrated by His works: “And you shall remember all the way which the LORD your God has led you in the wilderness these forty years” (8:2). He gave them manna to eat; their clothing miraculously did not wear out; He gave them physical strength for their continual traveling. He promised them: “When you have eaten and are satisfied, you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you” (8:10). What should be their response to His love? “You shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him” (8:6).

Moses wrote in summary: “He is your glory and He is your God, who has done these great and awesome things for you which your eyes have seen” (10:21). How much greater should we—as those who know salvation in Christ—praise Him and serve Him with “all our heart and with all our soul” (10:12)!
