Mar 28 (Daily reading: Joshua 19-21) I see a three-point sermon in Joshua 21:43-45.
(1st) “So the LORD gave Israel all the land which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and lived in it” (v. 43). Jesus has promised us abundant life in our relationship to Him! We possess it and we live it: “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me” (Gal. 2:20).
(2nd) “And the LORD gave them rest on every side, in accordance with everything that He had sworn to their fathers, and no one of all their enemies stood before them; the LORD handed all their enemies over to them” (v. 44). In this life in Christ, He promised, “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Mt. 11:28). This rest includes God’s victories over all our enemies, over all who would stand against us! “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom. 8:31, NKJV).
(3rd) “Not one of the good promises which the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed; everything came to pass” (v. 45). In this life in Christ, we can put our trust in God and all that He has promised. “For the LORD your God will bless you as He has promised you” (Deut. 15:6). “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ” (2 Cor. 1:20, NIV). “He who promised is faithful” (Heb. 10:23).
