Daily Bible Reading – May 21, 2021

May 21 (Daily reading: 2 Samuel 22-23; Psalm 57) David wrote: “My heart is steadfast, God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises! … I will sing praises to You among the nations” (Ps. 57:7, 9). Our hearts join David’s in singing to our God!

He sang in 2 Samuel 22 of God’s protection: “The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge” (vv. 2-3). God supported and rescued David: “The LORD was my support … He rescued me, because He delighted in me” (vv. 19-20). God was his shield and fortress: “He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him … God is my strong fortress” (vv. 31, 33).

He sang about God’s omnipotence: “Then the earth shook and quaked, the foundations of heaven were trembling and were shaken … The LORD thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered His voice” (vv. 8, 14). His power is awesome!

David sang of God’s salvation, which is our shield and our rock: “Blessed be my Rock; and exalted be my God, the rock of my salvation.” It is also our tower (vv. 36. 47, 51). His salvation provided light in dark places: “For You are my lamp, LORD; and the LORD illuminates my darkness” (v. 29).

David found delight in God as he sang: “(God) is like the light of the morning when the sun rises, a morning without clouds, when the fresh grass springs out of the earth from sunshine after rain … For will He not indeed make all my salvation and all my delight grow?” (2 Sam. 23:4-5).

“Be exalted above the heavens, God; May Your glory be above all the earth” (Ps. 57:11).
