Daily Bible Reading – May 28, 2021

May 28 (Daily reading: Psalms 111-118) “Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to Your name give glory because of Your lovingkindness, because of Your truth” (115:1). “For His lovingkindness is great toward us, and the truth of the LORD is everlasting. Praise the LORD!” (117:2). Psalm 118 repeats five times: “For His lovingkindness is everlasting.” Chapter 4 of my book, “We Love Because God First Loved Us,” examines the use of “chesed,” the Hebrew word that is translated “lovingkindness” (NASB), or “unfailing love” (NIV). Over one hundred twenty times, the word lovingkindness appears in the Psalms to speak of God’s love for His people.

An important use of chesed is found in Psalm 143:8, “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life” (NIV). This verse shows me why my daily morning meeting with the Lord is so important. Its truth is renewed to me each morning. I sometimes lie in my bed, consumed by worrisome thoughts, only to rise in the morning to open God’s word and to be reminded of His love for me. I am encouraged to trust only Him, as He shows me the way I must go, not only on that particular day, but every day. Truly, to God and God alone, I entrust (place in His hands) my entire life, and also Judy’s life, as I depend on His provision for her.

“O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days” (Ps. 90:14).
