Daily Bible Reading – October 02, 2021

October 2 (Daily reading: Matthew 1; Luke 2) Matthew and Luke were led by the Holy Spirit to share details of the birth of Jesus, what we call the Christmas story. This celebration of His birth has blessed countless people over the years. We believe in His miraculous birth as we belief in His miraculous life and His miraculous death and resurrection!

Here are some of the details that bless us continually, first from Matthew 1: 20-23. Jesus’s miraculous virgin birth was confirmed: “For the child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.” His name would be Jesus, “for He will save His people from their sins.” His birth fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14. “They shall call His name Immanuel, which translated means ‘God with us.’”

More details came from Luke 2:1-20. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, a fulfillment of the prophecy of Micah 5:2. The angel announced to the shepherds that Joseph and Mary’s baby was born to be “a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” His birth would bring “good news of great joy” and “peace on earth among men.” This fulfills Isaiah 9:6 which prophesied he would be the “Prince of Peace.” Jesus’s birth brought praise to God! The angels proclaimed: “Glory to God in the highest,” and “The shepherds went back, glorifying and praising God.”

Because of this blessed event, we can say to God along with Simeon, “My eyes have seen Your salvation” (Lk. 1:30). May we celebrate every day of the year the coming of Immanuel “God with us!”
