Thanksgiving Sunday (Discussion Questions)

  1. What stood out to you from the lesson today?
  2. Why give thanks to God?  Psalm 100 will give some answers.
  3. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says “Give thanks is all circumstances.”
    1. What are the good circumstances in your life in which you need to give thanks to God?
    2. What are the difficult circumstances in your life in which you need to give thanks to God?
  4. When you realize you are anxious… what should you do?  Philippians 4: 6-7 will help.
  5. Would you say your brain is better wired right now to give thanks… or to grumble and complain?
  6. How is grumbling and complaining antipraise?
  7. Bruce gave examples of how to practice giving thanks to God.  What example will you try to practice?
  8. The Greek word for “giving thanks” in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 is Eucharisteo.
    1. Eucharisteo has the root words:
      1. Charis = grace
      2. Chara = joy
    2. So to give thanks is to receive Grace and experience joy!
      1. How have Christians received Grace in the Gospel?
      2. Why does Grace extended to a person result in such joy?
